Giving Back this Thanksgiving
It’s that time of year again when we think about what we are thankful for. We reflect on our lives and contemplate all the good in the world. Thanksgiving is also a great time to give back to the community, because there are many people in need. At Miamohalla we give 10% of every purchase back to the community through our partnership with Crossover Basketball and Scholars Academy. Crossover Basketball and Scholars Academy is a non-profit organization in India that encourages kids to stay in school and complete their education through the use of basketball as a vehicle of change. Giving back to your community is so important during the holiday season because it is an effort that can make everyone feel loved. Here are four ways you and your little one can give back this holiday season!
1. Volunteer at a Food Bank: Many food banks during the holiday season are understaffed due to the high demand around Thanksgiving time. They’ll typically invite volunteers to the headquarters to help with sorting and distributing food. This is a great, hands on opportunity to help and interact with different individuals in the community.
2. Donate Old Books to a Children’s Hospital: If you have time off this Thanksgiving, try to find some time to go through your old books. Think about donating ones that were loved in the past, and you think could be loved again. Children’s hospitals are always accepting book donations for the little ones there. These donations will definitely make someone’s day a little brighter.
3. Donate Old Clothing and Toys to a Charity: Looking to clean before the holidays? Collect old clothes and toys and donate them to a nearby charity such as Goodwill, Salvation Army, or someplace local. This could give someone the opportunity to make the items their own this holiday season.
4. Run/Walk in a Race Partnered with a Charity: On Thanksgiving there are always fun, active events such as Turkey Trots. Find one in your community that partners with a charity so that every participant fee paid, a portion or all goes towards a good cause.
